Not a Trump fan, never voted for him. But this seems like an obvious media narrative to target Republicans ahead of primaries and solidify camps and messaging. Personally I hope he doesn't run but I also don't like to fall for contrived narratives. They are often unsafe and not effective.
I would counter-argue that the media are desperately invested in getting Trump to run insofar as they know his weaknesses and recognize he'd likely fail at the third shot.
I think we have different perspectives on this. The J6 obsession seems very specific to making it so Trump legally can not be eligible to run. It was so uninteresting and based almost entirely on hearsay I can't see it be a ratings boom for networks. Your argument is not wild though, he was positioned as a cast loser so Hillary could win much the same way that Kari Lake was thought to be beatable and promoted in the primaries by not just Republicans.
